Yesterday we went to Dream Dinners to let the kids make . . .well. . .dinners. Then I looked up the shop to see where it was in Phoenix and for me living in east Mesa, it would be easier to go to Tucson. And much more scenic. But there are other plans like this around there. I may try out their Mexican dishes sometime.
Anyhoo -- Alice made an appointment to make eight dinners and to let the kids do it. They had a blast.
Follow along.
Each parent took a kid and away they went. I had to wash my hands and put on an apron, but I just went behind and took pictures.
They would let each child measure everything and put them in the appropriate plastic bags.
Eventually all ending up in a big bowl to also be bagged.
They followed along with a big recipe for what to do next. Those that could read, that is. The Caterpillar needed help with that.
Don't know what this was but it looks mighty good.
Some of us needed a little help at times.
But not too much.
I think this was butter or cheese squares or something. She needed three and that third one wouldn't come willingly.
"Do you want me to help?"
"No. I can do it myself."
Then the last bowl that was mixed gets poured into a pan for freezing and later cooking.
She had to put the lid on "all by herself".
Measure out the eggs. . . . . .
. . . . . and then pour into Ziplock bag.
Roll out the wrap to get the pan ready for freezing.
And start all over again with another recipe.
And voila!
"I did it, Grandma!"
what a cute idea! I've never heard of that!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic idea -- and look at the smile on that sweet face. :)
ReplyDeleteso then after all this you take it home and cook it or freeze it for later? i have never seen anything like this. a great way to teach kids to cook or adults for that matter
ReplyDeleteAhh---what a cute idea. I'm sure those girls had a great time preparing those dinners... Love it.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year.

what a bizarre concept! hadn't heard of it before.
ReplyDeleteThe last picture is so sweet! I have never heard of this, I don't think there are any around here. So do they take them home to cook them or eat them there or what?
ReplyDeleteThis is a great way to teach and make cooking fun. She looks proud.
ReplyDeleteThat looks like so much fun. We have one of these places near us. You have given me a bit of insight into what goes on.
ReplyDeleteGotta find one of those places! Great fun!
