More National Cathedral

This was in the main chapel.  II don't know what it all means but it was all so intricate and interesting to look at.

And it's a bit blurry so don't run out and make that eye appointment.

These body statues - there must be a better name for them that I don't know - were all over.   I told SIL he could make a statue out of me when I'm dead if he wanted.   He said he wasn't sure that would happen.  He had a name and I read that plaque, but didn't write any of it down to remember.

And the close up.   I was riveted with this because it was like they just poured cement or whatever they used over his body and it came out a perfect clone of the man.  I mean - it even had every little pore on his face and whisker marks.   How do they make something like that?

I don't mean to offend anyone here, and I would never make light of anyone's faith and beliefs, but this kinda creeped me out a bit.  It was just so real.  I'd be interested in knowing about this if anyone wants to enlighten me.

Oh - those doors throughout the building.   This was in the lower level in front of a chapel.

There was this little mini door and I grabbed The Caterpillar and told her to stand there so I could have a comparison.  She immediately went into red carpet model pose for me.   That kid is so dang cute I can hardly stand it.  She's a tease.  And she comes by it honestly.

I thought this was cute.

  2. You got some great pictures at the National Cathderal... We only went into the sanctuary part when we were there. BUT--I remember sitting outside (it was spring then) and listening to the bells chime.. That was tremendous...

Love that last picture of Dad and his two angels.

  5. The DOORS!!! They are awesome!!!! She is s born model for sure! And the second picture is amazing, too. The dead statues, kind of creepy indeed. They are, to be sure, good works of art, but why didn't they carve them like they were alive, rather than dead? Someone must know.

  6. This is one of my ALL TIME FAVORITE places to visit. Last time I was in DC, I took three different docent tours... because different people focus on different things. Learned something new every time. I'd done two the visit before... and, when I have the good fortune to visit DC again, I'll add another... or two. ;) It is just gorgeous. Thank you for sharing these posts about it. blessings ~ tanna
