New Years Day Skating

When you get to skate free from 8:00 a.m. until noon, you take the opportunity. I don't skate. I tried to once at about age 16 and haven't done it since. I stayed out of it because I didn't want to fly home with a cast on something. Then I thought maybe I should because a cast gets you pre-boarding. Hmmmmmm.   Perhaps I should have re-thought.

It does look fun though.

Dormouse is starting skating lessons this month so I hope she gets really good at it.   She seems to love it.  Well, except the falls.   Not a fan of those.

It's really hard to get a photo.   So many people rammin' into you.

Mom and Dormouse.

The Caterpillar did a half a lap and insisted on quitting so we got to go into the cafe and drink hot chocolate where it was warm.

She was getting irritated because I kept snapping the camera.  Who wouldn't.

So for the rest of the time we were there, this is her every time I pointed the camera at her.
She's really good about having her picture taken and will do her  'model pose' for you.  It always comes out cute, but when she's done. . . . . she's DONE.

I got a few videos and this one came out not too bad.  You'll find her.

  1. This is a really good and clear video! I love the pictures of your special time together in the cafe. Anne Marie learned to ice skate last year, but the nearest rink is over the mountain 30 minutes away, so only good for special occasions and birthday parties.

  2. How nice it must have been to spend this holiday surrounded by those you love!
    P.S. Hank is pissed.

  3. I prefer roller skates, 4-wheels or inline, done in warm weather. Too cute out there on the ice. She'll have fun with the lessons.

  5. If you live in a place that does winter, you might as well learn to skate. We used to skate all the time as kids - I loved it. But arthritic knees and a fear of falling has made me stop. I still remember the fun though. Glad your granddaughters are learning it too.

I'll be in AZ from Jan 18 till Feb 9, and again early in March and April. Really looking forward to it.

  6. Great photos and fun video to take home with you. You've got a sweet little grand-daughter, a lovely family in fact. I tried skating many years ago on a holiday in Austria, but my weak ankles wouldn't let me stand up straight on and after several unsuccessful attempts and two very sore ankles, I gave up. Did you get to go see the outdoor ice-rink in Washington DC? We have been there many times and enjoy watching everyone having a good time.

  7. Hi Roe!

That looked like so much fun - I used to love to ice-skate! Remember when they didn't empty the canals, and the ice would get thick enough to walk on? That's where I learned to ice-skate! I have always loved it!

Your grands are so adorable! I'm camera shy too, so I totally get running as fast as you can AWAY from the camera!!

    Hugs,
    Barb

  8. Skating is fun but I was always a bit wobbly. We have only a few rinks in each city as we don't get snow. The video is great and the caterpillar shots so cute. The pics have cooled me down a little. Southern Australia are in the grips of a heat wave and it is coming our way.
