Or.. . . how many ways can you photograph Superstition Mountain in the snow?
Answer: At least 84. I could've taken hundreds out there. Everywhere you turned was another shot.
I went out this morning about six and was dedicated to getting a picture of the mountain before the sun came up and melted it.
And it was cold. I had to wear gloves.
I know that is shocking for someone from say. . . .North Dakota or Minnesota to swallow, but yes. I had to wear a jacket and gloves. Let it be known around the world that Arizona does get cold in the desert.
Sometimes.
Not often, but defiantly this year. I've even had to turn on the heat this year.

Gassssssspp!!
I'll try to pick out the best photos. You know what the rule is - take a thousand pictures to get one good one.
It doesn't even look like the same mountain. So beautiful!
This might just have to have a real frame.
I stopped at the tourist trap ghost town of Goldfield at about 7:30 or so to get some photos at a higher level. More about Goldfield later.
Is that cool or what? No pun intended.
This was a search helicopter flying low over the mountains. They are looking for a woman who was reported lost during the storm back in there. You get lost in that area, you are very hard to find. I haven't heard whether they found her or not.
I went out to Lost Dutchman State Park for these up close and personal. It was so cold and so beautiful out there. Ice hanging from trees and cactus still. And the quiet.
Well - except for hearing the click-click of camera shutters. You can't believe how many people were out there taking pictures. It was a gaggle of photographers everywhere.
Poor Cholla. Talk about freezing 'yer fuzz off.
More to come later.

This mountain is awesome, I have never seen one anything near like it. Do people ever try to climb it? In some pictures it kind of looks like another planet. Your cold trek was WELL worth it! Now...tell me about the superstition part...
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures. I saw the snow out there and longed to go out and do what you did, but my classroom and students called. I didn't hear about the lost hiker. Hope they found her. I love hiking in that area. Great photos.
